 Comments regarding the current controversy
The following comments are just a few I have on file from complete strangers as well as
some of our customers, who know what kind of puppies we raise... healthy ones!

Some have asked me to leave their true identity off the web site because they mingle with show people
and don't want to catch flack from their narrow minded friends for supporting what I'm doing.

However, I have hard copies of these emails/letters to prove I did not make them up and
I have them as written, I do not correct grammar or spelling,
I simply copy & paste them into this page.

I think the b*$%#*s are just jealous.. They have to walk a thin line and please everyone around them and they can't breed what they want, when they want, without someone spreading rumors.  They know you have the freedom to do that and it pisses them off.  How the hell can adults be so childish??  ugh!!

Grandma Kay,
I do love your site and with what you have/had to say about the show people and thier thoughts on your line of work. I think it is awesome! Keep your head up and smile!!

Grandma Kay,
I'm glad you're not concerned about the show people...I know it's great to get breeds/colors/ recognized at major shows and I love to watch the shows but I'm primarily concerned with the disposition, health and beauty and you definitely cannot argue the beauty of your babies!

Lexie was actually my boyfriend's dog but the minute she saw me I was her mama...so she went home with me. When I was home from March til the deployment she went everywhere with me...including work....like my shadow. She is with a friend of mine who has two male Danes so I know she's getting the attention she deserves. I can't wait to see her and cuddle with her on the couch again! The shirt idea is wonderful...I go home for a couple of weeks in October so I think I'm going to send a shirt home this week!

I really do think about getting Lexie a playmate.. especially since she's gotten so used to pushing around the two males who weigh 30 lbs more than her!

Thank you for your support and maybe Lexie and I will come out when I get home to see if she selects one!

Hi Kay,
Keep up the good work !! I for one am sick of people saying bad thing's about chocolate Danes, when my husband and i bred fawn Danes in the 90's we had a litter with 2 of the chocolate in it, and the woman I bought the female from, insisted I should put them down, well you know what I told her. We kept both the pup's they grew into gorgeous dog's and every one that saw them wanted them or one just like them !!!! thank you for loving the breed !!

Hi Kay, We always knew we would want another Dane. When we seen that you went to Chocolates, we wondered if we would still get one from you or look elsewhere for the color we wanted. After looking at A LOT of other breeders websites and pictures none of the puppies looked as good as yours did. Don't get me wrong there was some healthy puppies and even some breeders who seemed like they took as good of care as you do. However, there wasn't any that matched you. Now that we know you will have some blacks, we are even more excited that we will be able to adopt from you again! Even, if these two upcoming litters, don't produce a black, we will wait till one does!

Thank You,
Melanie

HEY ITS RITA,

I JUST WANTED TO UPDATE YOU ON POE. HE IS AMAZING. HE IS SO CUTE. HE LOVES GOING FOR WALKS AND IS SUCH A PUPPY LOL.

HE IS 75 POUNDS NOW. AND EVERYONE SAYS HE IS BEAUTIFUL WHEN I TAKE HIM OUT. I AM HAVING A ISSUE WITH HIM RIDING IN THE CAR. HE WILL CLIMB ON THE KIDS IN THEIR CAR SEATS UGH. BUT I AM TRYING TO FIX THAT. HE ALSO LOVES TO TALK. ITS SO CUTE. IF YOU ASK HIM, "WHAT POE POE," HE JUST STARTS TALKING TO YOU.

HE MIGHT BE GOING ON A GREAT HIKING ADVENTURE IN JULY OR AUGUST WITH ME AND THE KIDS IN NEW MEXICO. IM EXCITED. I WANTED TO GET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DANE FROM YOU NEXT YEAR. POE NEEDS A FRIEND AND I LOVE THIS BREED.

I SAW THAT YOU ARE ONLY BREEDING CHOCOLATES NOW. I WAS WONDERING WHAT HAPPEN TO MAVERICK? AND THE OTHER PUPPY YOU KEPT. I CHECK YOUR PAGE EVERYDAY TO SEE THE UPDATES OF POE'S LITTER AND THE OTHER DANES YOU HAVE SOLD. ITS SO SAD THE THING THOSE 2 PEOPLE DID TO THOSE PUPPIES YOU SOLD THEM. THE ONE WITH HIP DYSPLAZIA. KEEP ME IN MIND FOR NEXT MARCH FOR ANOTHER PUP.  I'M EXCITED. I HOPE YOU HAVE A LITTER THEN. I WILL SEND YOU PICS OF POE LATER TONIGHT. HE IS SO BIG.  -- Rita

Hi Kay, I just wanted to say that I look at your page almost every single day, to look to see what's new, etc. and I saw all the drama that you are having to deal with because of the people who do not know what they are talking about posting stuff on Facebook.  It is completely ridiculous for someone who does not know you or anything about your dogs to be posting that stuff.  All they had to do was go to the dog in question's page and read what was there, and they would have seen exactly what is going on!

I know that you don't just give your dogs to anyone, because the dog that I really wanted you would not let me have, due to the fact that you thought she would not be a good fit for my family.  It all worked out well for me, because now I have Ghosty and he is perfect for us.  I just want you to know that those of us who have dogs of yours support you, and know what is really going on with you and your dogs!

Don't let the idiots out there get to you!!

Deborah

Hi again,
I checked out your website and want to say thank you for posting our beauty on your website of great Danes of other colors. I do appreciate all the info I learned on your website. Also, I have to say you have wonderful looking Danes. We are also Dane lovers. We have just recently started breeding Danes from our pets. We are new to the different odd colors and loved the chocolate Dane. We have been thinking of buying one in the near future to add to our breeding program. We just had purchased a brindle that we had to rehome. Once we got her home, we made an appointment to our vet and found she had demodex mange (from bad breeding). We are trying to better the breed. If the Dane is not up to standards then they cannot be bred. I found her a wonderful home that she is getting all the attention she needs as a pet only. She was just beautiful. This is the 4th Dane we have rescued from people that were not taking care of their Danes. Again, I want to say thank you and I will send you an updated pic of the brantle merle before she goes to her forever home. She has not yet found that home. If you do know anyone that is interested in her just pass on our information. Have a great Dane day.
Terri and Chris

I think it is really neat what you do with your danes. I really love the breed and love the designer colors. I have a 4 year old brindle and a 3 month old fawn merle, both males and akc, who both think they are humans and my kids :) I live in california and I Have watched your sight for about 2 years now and thought about maybe adding one of your dogs to my family. I really enjoy your fawnaquins and brindlequins. I know they cant be shown but can do obedience trails and I thought i would like to get into that. I have shown dogs for about 10 years, my brindle and I have a german shepherd are who I show now. Thanks Nina!

Hello,
No need to get back to me. I just wanted to say how wonderful your site is. I never heard of Chocolate danes till now. I have a black dane and would definitely look into getting a chocolate one the next time we add another baby to our home. Seeing the adds posted and the pics of true choc dane was very informative. Keep up the great work. Paws up to you.

My wife and I are going to be looking for a new puppy whenever our current Dane settles down a little bit and we decided we want to buy one from you!

Nilah (my wife) and I are so in love with Diesel we don't know what to do! Except of course, get him a playpal!  OK .. back to work for me... congrats on all your success and hopefully we'll chat soon!

Hi Kay!
Was just reading your updated page in "combat" to all the drama from members of that Dane web site and I gotta say that my respect for you grows more and more for what you do and why you do it. The fact that you keep to your ideas and are respectful to even those who have shown you NONE says a lot about your character. I wish there were more people out there that like you.

I know that there are more members of the site bashing you that do agree with what you do, they are just too "shy" or "spineless" enough to post up about their beliefs in fear of getting "flamed." I personally don't read much of that forum, just nutrition (passion of mine) for the most part- and for good reason because I don't even have the time to participate in such silliness...I'd rather play with my dogs!

So far (and I have looked A LOT) your site is the MOST informative and open that I have come across. You post up everything, even the "bad" but to me that just makes it all the more responsible of you and keeps me feeling confident in your breeding program. My next Dane puppy is coming from you, even if I have to wait a long time to get her/him!!! Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I will keep in touch with you and let you know if I see a pup that I just can't live without! And once I get that sweet angel from you it will be like it never left since I will ALWAYS give you updates. I was heartbroken when I lost touch with the breeder I got xxxx from! (I left her dog's name out to protect her i.d.)

I'm losing more and more interest in that Dane site nowadays, especially since I've learned how they have treated you and have seen all the B.S. that goes on there. When I joined the group I thought it was a compassionate group of Dane lovers...and they can be but, I don't like the ugly that comes along with it.

Hope all is well and keep up the good work against the naysayers!!! You fit every quality I want in a breeder, so that is enough to me! The fact that you give back to charity just further tells me what kind of person you really are...WONDERFUL!!!

Hello Kay,

I have been to your site a few times. Most of the time being redirected here on topics I was looking for.  You have great looking dogs, and a helpful site (not only for Danes but other mastiffs too!) Especially on the toys, I would have never known that the rubber ball toys are dangerous (although mine are never left alone with a toy or chew) I frequently am looking for info on mastiffs and other breeds and although the breeds are different they require much of the same care.

I just read what people are saying about you and I think that is horrible. I think that most people are spay, spay, spay instead of working the truly bad breeders out of the equation. I absolutely love your colored Danes, and never knew they came in such vast colors till seeing your site. I think they are much prettier than the show standards and just hope one day they are all recognized.

If I decided that I would want a colored Dane, you would be the one! From what I've read, you take great care of your dogs. Who has all this info. on their site if they were just in it for the money? Not many. Its clear that you not only breed for color, but also health, temperament, and type. Continue on with what you do, Its clear your Danes are loved. And I must say I love your boy BLU, he is beautiful!  You can post this if you like.
Sincerely,
Ashley

Kay,
I can not believe the ignorance of the people that are talking bad about you!  Just by the mere fact of what they are saying it's obvious they know nothing about you or your dogs.

Before you stopped allowing visitors to come to your place to see puppies I was lucky enough to be able to do so and see your beautiful and healthy dogs as well as your clean home and their living conditions.  You were kind enough to let me do so even though you knew I was not interested in buying a puppy but was just fascinated with the breed.

It's no wonder you no longer allow people into your home, because of judgmental ones like those trashing you who have their so called facts all screwed up!  In this day and age, with all the people "window shopping" for a puppy, I'm sure there are plenty of "less than desirables" that you turn down so I don't blame you one bit for not wanting someone like that in your home, the place where your family lives!  All I know is when I die, I'd love to come back as one of your Designer Danes!  Best wishes for your upcoming litter,
Candice R.

Thank you :) for taking the time to upload so many videos of your Danes.
You have the most beautiful Danes I have ever seen in my life! I have always wanted one and now I know that I am going to get mine from you :)

I saw those postings on that web site and again was appalled at their behavior towards you...it just doesn't make any sense. Either way I don't really care what they say because I think you have beautiful dogs and a wonderful facility and home.
The Youtube videos really put my mind at ease knowing how your dogs live. I don't mind if you are still untrusting of new people like me...I can assure you that I am 100% genuine and I can't stand the pretentious show people on DOL. That is why I stick to the nutrition, health and behavior forums only really which are the only useful sources of information and support on there (only reason why I stick around there). If I ever see anything like those attacks against you I would stand up for you and your program because I believe what you are doing is unlocking the true potential to Dane color genetics. I've always been interested in the different color combinations out there

Well, I don't want you to quit because of anyone else or what they say, definitely retire when the time is right of course. I understand that breeding the right way is a lot of work, I grew up with breeding samoyeds (too much hair for me!!!).

We will probably want to come down to pick a pup up and make a road trip out of it ;)

Thanks again for the reply!

Brent and I were just on your website looking for any new litters and found all of the bull about your Danes...These people can say what they want but if they only knew the person you are and how much love you have for these dog's they would be ashamed.

I have never had such a wonderful dog as Buddy he is  one of our family.... These people are mad because they can't sell their dog's and back them up the way you can... I have never had a problem getting in touch with you about any concern for my Dane no matter what time, you're always there to help with any info.... These people can go to HELL as far as I am concerned because if we decide to get us another one I promise you we will call you no doubt about it... You keep breeding these beautiful animals and don't listen to the trash talk.....

P.S.  Ghosty is still doing really well.  I keep trying to get good pictures to send you, but he is not still long enough usually for me to get different pictures.  He is always following one of the kids or getting in to something!!

Grandma Kay,
I'm so mad. Usually I just go straight to whatever page on your site that I want, I have them all book marked. I was shocked when I saw your front page the other day. I looked at some of that blog. Its ridiculous. And for them to claim you're in it for the money is an outrage. The sweet perfectly healthy baby I purchased from you was more reasonably priced than anything else I've seen on the internet. And so are your gorgeous designer colors. And even if I never breed him, I think of it as an added bonus that he carries that beautiful chocolate gene.

He came to us well mannered, is completely house trained, the biggest lover, snuggler in the world, so eager to learn and please and we just love him.

Today I went to the other chocolate breeder's site to look at their chocolate babies and the whole site is under construction due to hate mail. What is wrong with these folks? I have seen them charge 3000 and up for limited reg on a standard color and they have the nerve to accuse you of being in it for the money.  Sorry to go on so long, I'm just so mad.

I also want to make sure you know that I appreciate you and the wonderful job you do in breeding these babies and pricing them reasonably so that others can enjoy them. I'm sure that anyone that has adopted one of your babies knows, as I do, that color is not your first priority.

Sweet Lips is doing great and growing like a weed. The no bite tip you gave me worked like a charm. It only took once or twice and that problem was done with.

Thank you and keep up the great work you do. I can't wait to see the new babies in May. I loved that you updated as the puppies were being born last time. It was almost like being there!
Stephanie and Sweet Lips

While I disagree with your color choices in breeding I do applaud you for standing up for yourself with the snobby bunch.   Paul is acting like the Great Dane police and it isn't his place.  I will no longer associate with him and his crew.  As long as you are breeding healthy dogs and not ripping people off you are alright in my book.  Right on and keep up the good work.  Nice to see you around.

Melody Rainwater
BTW, sometimes we do have surprises in our litters that are pure color bred but that doesn't stop them from being wonderful pets and people like them.

We LOVE our Lexi!!! who will be 1 year old later this month.

She did develop demodetic mange at about 3 months (which is transferred from mother in birth canal) so she had to be spayed as she will carry the gene.  When I told Kay, her immediate response was, of course, sooooo sorry, and then assured me she would have Lexi's momma spayed (which she was) so as not to propagate the problem.

Kay as been extremely supportive and response since we got our baby, and I would highly recommend her.

The 'backyard breeder' stuff is from breeders who stay within AKC guidelines re: acceptable Dane coloring.  Kay (ASOCD) is just what her business name implies, she breeds for a 'splash of color' but does NOT inbreed.  Her puppies will not be show quality merely because of their colorings. Kay is also concerned enough about her puppies to insert tracking chips in the event they should ever become lost....wonder how many breeders are that conscientious?

I would strongly suggest having your puppy's tummy tacked.  Dane's are highly susceptible to torsion (twisting) of their stomachs which is extremely painful and more often than not, fatal. We had Lexi's tummy tacked at the same time we had her spayed.

I now consider Kay an extremely good, albeit, long-distance friend.

At this point I am not sure if I have an actual question, but I just had to take a moment to send you praises... your dogs are absolutely stunning. I have seen various dogs of yours on puppy find and on your site for quite a while now. I have always had a soft spot for those Danes who are not "the right color". I have had not one but 2 fawn mantles, both rescues who were the most wonderful. beautiful Danes I have ever known. When I came across your brindlequins I was floored. Talk about stunning!!! I have been in love since.  I scoff at anyone who made comments about her markings. I love how according to your websites, you do the very same.  Oh and before I forget... .Cowboy is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever laid eyes on!
Warm regards,
Kristen

I just wanted to let you know that you are living my dream!!!! I got my first Dane 4 years ago. I fell in love and he changed my life! I gave up my career and started working at a pet resort just to be with him all the time! I now have 2 and manage the pet resort. we are currently trying to sell our home and buy land to raise Danes for THEIR pleasure. My boys sleep in the bed with me and lay on the couch with me and go to work with me, I know you understand! I am blown away by your setup and your family of Danes! I would like to know what it takes to be considered for one of your puppies in the future. My boys get the best of everything!!! I am very interested!!
Thank you,
Gina

Hello from Katy, TX!
My name is Lily and our family is looking for our perfect Great Dane.  Your video on you tube was wonderful! I really do agree with you, that breeders of the "conformed" cult are closed minded. I usually do not prefer "breeders,"
for most do not breed to IMPROVE the breed, but choose to compete out of pride and ego, and make money off a breed. Your education on the breed, improvement of the breed, the video evidence of the health and gorgeousness of your Danes, and NON-closed-minded Non-snobbishness gripped me.

There are too many back yard breeders doling out poor dogs that are in bad health to people with more $ money than brains, and the poor dogs usually end up in a shelter or dead due to negligence or 'oh my the dog got TOO BIG!"  I looked at the rescues, and well, near all my previous pets have been rescues and this time around, I really want a puppy and one that is not going to have health or temperament issues. With a dog this big and with the health issues at stake, I really want to know where the Dane comes from and the health history of the parents....and well... This time, I want a dog that actually looks like the breed it is. (I hope that doesn't sound too selfish).  For that many dogs in ONE household to be so calm and good natured, I was astounded and impressed by yours on the videos!

You are the only breeder I have contacted. It isn't about just any Great  Dane....there are too many factors to consider when seeking your perfect companion for that.
Thanks for being a TRUE BREEDER.
Lily & Family

It is so cool how you come up with such unique colorings.  Guess it is for the love of the breed and not the color
so you can show it, win ribbons and ask $2,000-$3,000  per pup when you breed it, unlike show people, huh?
Rhonda

I have got to say I dont care what the show breeders say about the odd colors.. You have got the most beautiful dogs I love the fawnaquins and brindlequins!!!

Your website is absolutely amazing!  I put together a website for the company i used to work with and know how much work went into that and it was no where as interactive as yours... so more power to ya! :)  It really was intriguing and fun! I had only meant to check it out and ended up on there for an hour! My husband is currently deployed in Iraq and I am hoping to get a puppy before his return... after viewing your
site I could go no where else.

Hi my name is Kelsey,
I wanted to drop u an email and let u know I think your dogs are beautiful and people who say different are crazy. I myself have a fawnequin girl and I plan to do what a lot of breeders call unthinkable and breed her to my Hungarian import for some great Euro structure with awesome color. Good luck with all your beautiful babies.
Kelsey

Kay,

Until your site, and all of your great info, I didn't even know that you could register different colors, or that my piebalds were that in appearance only. In truth we don't really know what these ethical breeders color lines are coming from, because they just register a fawnequin, or brindlequin, as a harl. or a merle mantle as a mantle, or how about a merlequin that has dominant grey spots, but because they have some black they call them harl's.

Are these some of the same breeders that euthanized merle pups at birth and say they have never had a merle in their lines?  Please, black and white still makes grey. At least you are honest, and your dogs are registered in the correct colors, so people will know on the pedigree.

As long as you breed for foundation, strong bones, solid hips, good hearts, good disposition, and temperament, the color is secondary to all that. Best of all look at the rainbow of beauty you have shown me, I had no idea that there were so many beautiful choices!  There's a fawnequin puppy at your house in the future that's mine, and maybe a lilac, and a cream, and maybe a chocolate!

I love what you're doing, but I love that you're out of the closet more, and not hiding behind lies. The breeders are just pissed because you have put so many more choices on the table, and they can't sell their inbred greyhound looking dogs for $4,000.  They have priced Danes out of most peoples range! Look at the prices of Harl's at most breeders.

I believe that everyone should have at least one Dane in their lives, and that's why I price my pet marked or limited reg. pups at under $800.  I always sell merles for $400 - 500. The only problem is that I think I have successfully bred Merles out of my lines. I haven't had 1 merle in the last 4 litters, and only 1 in a litter of 13 out of 3 different moms. I also seem to have ended the occasional white deaf puppy.

As for all the naysayers- You are breeding designer colors, you're specialized, tell them all to kiss your grits!

Have a great day!

A.C.
(Note:  LOL, I took her advise and now have a site called Kiss My Cocoa!)
